Health
Bringing care closer to those who live far from it, and giving people the information to make decisions about their own health.
Distance still kills
In many rural areas of Mozambique, the nearest health facility is hours away on foot. When you get there, what you need is not always available. And much of what sends people to hospital could have been prevented.
FIG does not aim to replace the National Health Service. It aims to strengthen it where it reaches with most difficulty, and to work upstream, on prevention.
Prevention costs a fraction of treatment, and spares families what no budget gives back.
Lines of work
Health promotion and prevention
Community campaigns on hygiene, nutrition, maternal and child health, communicable disease and sexual and reproductive health, delivered in the language and context of each community.
Health literacy
Materials and sessions that help people recognise warning signs, seek care in time and complete treatment.
Support to health facilities
Targeted and structured support to peripheral health facilities, in coordination with health authorities, covering basic equipment, service organisation and information systems.
Data and monitoring
Collection and analysis of routine data to understand what is working. Without data, a health programme is an opinion.
We are looking for partners in this area
Health authorities, organisations already working on the ground, and funders interested in community health in Mozambique.
